I'm gonna write a book now. Would be interesting to debate literature with window washers.

The Experts- Jehovahs Witnesses
by jean-luc picard ini was thinking this weekend of a brother i first met when i was a teenager.. not yet an elder, this brother was very outspoken, and was viewed a kind of hero to the r&f.. an inexperienced teen, i also believed ( influenced by others) that this guy was a godsend.. looking back, with the eyes of a more mature person, i now consider him an arrogant self opinionated bully.. he later became an elder and i might add that he also had an imposing physical appearance .
but he had no education.
no schooling.

Like written to children.
What got me is that JWs who finished high school in year 10,(in Australia the minimum education is to year 10, but most kids go thru to year 12) lecturing me about the evils of university. I'll never forget Terry O'Brien, head of Australia bethel, going on about it at a ca. He said roughly, '[knocking university] and I should know, because I once spent 6 months at uni!' And he dropped out when he became a jw, which was decades ago. So he knew everything about tertiary education because 30 years ago he spent one semester there. It always got my goat that people who had little to no experience 'knew' everything about it and could lecture me who was there for 5 years.
Rant nearly over: my hubby and I wouldn't make rent now if I didn't go to uni! What with unexpected job losses and injury and that!

People who pioneer on government assistance
by ilikecheese ini had a chat with my boyfriend about this, and he said that he knows quite a few pioneers who are capable of working but prefer to pioneer with government assistance.
his thought was, "well, it's kind of bad, but at least they're doing something useful/good with their time.
" i know from reading this board that it's a pretty widespread thing.

I'm not. I remember it was only fairly recently that the wt expected married women to not have jobs, and JWs can be so judgemental. I can imagine their thought process: ' how selfish to want to have a career, and how materialistic to want to work to own a house! If they were REALLY seeking first the kingdom they'd quit work and pioneer.'
Also, maybe many of the dole bludgers in these settings have inherited a house from a late relative or live in subsidised housing so they can get by on welfare. Or like some I knew who worked like dogs to buy property before they became jws. That's the only way I can think of that they'd manage without living 6 to a house on the dole in Australia isn't even enough to cover the average weekly rent.
Also JWs generally have no sort ,of sense of obligation to the community ie giving something back via taxes or a job which benefits the community such as nurses or teachers. Many are trades people though, which is also beneficial to general society, and where would our cities be without all those window washers? I wonder what they think of other pioneers who mooch off their tax money?

What is the most damning watchtower publication?
by zound ini want to purchase a couple of vintage watchtower publications to help in my helping jw's break free.
some of the older ones are expensive or hard to come by - i know you can buy them on cd's but i'd like to own one or two of the "classics of propaganda"- some of the ones that speak for themselves as to the ridiculousness of this religion.. of course any magazine i pick up today speaks to me of the ridiculousness, but you need something much more hardcore for the jw's.. any recommendations?.
"children" has some pretty good quotes in it..

If the message was that urgent, then why wouldn't they just broadcast it on TV and radio? When I lived in a cyclone prone area, approaching cyclones were broadcast on TV, the radio, and the internet. You couldn't miss the blasted thing, because the authorities wanted to make sure everyone was alright. Also, in my current neighbourhood, if something's going on a council sound car goes around broadcasting in the streets. So if the JW message is so urgent, why don't they do the same?

Is forensic evidence a "witness" for chid abuse cases?
by jwfacts ini have read that forensic evidence can be counted as one of the two required "witnesses" for child abuse cases, however have not seen anything in writing to support this.
the wikipedia article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/jehovah's_witnesses'_handling_of_child_sex_abuse states:.
dna evidence, medical reports, or information from forensic experts or police that proves sexual abuse is also accepted as a valid "second witness", however critics argue that, without mandatory reporting for all accusations of abuse regardless of the local laws, such evidence could remain undetected.. .

They miss the mercy- the whole point of being a Christian is to protect the weak and help the vulnerable. They're so far gone they quibble over what is evidence and what percentage of repentant acts can be quantified to prove you shouldn't be disfellowshipped, and what counts as a witness and what doesn't, they're overstepping Jesus' example of love!

I used to visit other congs when I got cabin fever in mine. My one, although one of 15 in the city, always felt like an isolated village. It was good to visit other 'villages' and meet new people.

It varied with the culture of the place and the CO. In my home town there were a lot of border hoppers, but in another one I moved to over 1000 miles away it was a matter of "Go to where you're assigned!"
Then in my home town, a CO came and chased all the border hoppers to their assigned territories unless they were elders specifically shipped in to administer the congregation. Then he left, and people probably border hop just as much again.

JULY 15th Study Watchtower - NEW LIGHT IS FANTASY
by The Searcher inthe july 15 study watchtower uses all 4 study articles to try to inculcate into every witnesses' mind that the governing body is indisputably god's sole channel of communication on earth.
to do so, it uses a multitude of scriptures along with seriously flawed un-inspired reasoning.
the foundation stone of this watchtower's blatant agenda is the claim that when jesus used only a few to dispense the physical food to the many, he was setting a principle which would be applied to the distribution of spiritual food after he returned to heaven.

this week end at our assembly the CO in one of his talks said that many are not liking the new watchtower.
This is why I think the noo lite might be a similar watershed to the 1995 generation change.
